Lydia’s Friday Five (8.29.14)

Lydia’s Friday Five (8.29.14)

We might be currently wrapped in a warm blanket of denial, but sooner or later we have to face facts. Summer is leaving us. She’s taking her bags, moving out of our apartment and hopefully leaving us half the DVD collection like we discussed. Labor Day is technically moving day. School is about to begin and leaves are about to change color. With some persistent begging on our part we can probably get summer to linger for at least another month. And as always we can throw her one hell of a goodbye party…

If you’re in town come raise the collective Seattle roof at Bumbershoot over the next three days. Walk by the Movin booth and wave hi to me. Or actively ignore me. Both are valid life choices. Bumbershoot lineup and ticket information is available HERE.

This super-sized edition of The Friday Five is dedicated to you summer. We’ll miss you when you inevitably depart. Although I was serious about the DVD collection… I don’t have a Netflix account. Now turn up the latest and greatest in indie pop and EDM to slap a season-changing smile on your face. And remember whatever you’re doing this holiday weekend make it grand and make it joyous.

1) Broods – L.A.F.

Move over Lorde, you’re not the only New Zealand artist with indie street cred anymore. Caleb and Georgia Nott are the siblings behind Broods, an electropop duo making ear candy like this.

2) Alesso ft. Tove Low – Heroes

Get your Freaknight Festival tickets while you can my friends. Alesso recently joined the stellar lineup including Tiesto, Kaskade, Dillon Francis and many more to come. Halloween’s hottest 2-day dance party is back again at the Wamu Theater so start sewing your sexy cat costume now.

3) The Chainsmokers ft. Siren – Kanye

4) Norman Doray & Arno Cost – Strong

5) Porter Robinson – Years of War

6) Branchez – Truth

7) Klangkarussell ft. Will Heard – Moments

8) Fink – All Cried Out (Kulkid Remix)

I’ll leave you with one last track from my favorite Bumbershoot 2014 artist G-Eazy. Profanity warning.

Have an incredible holiday weekend sending summer off in style. I’ll see you out there on the never-ending dance floor that is life.

About Lydia

Lydia Cruz has been on the airwaves with Brooke & Jubal in the Morning for four years. She's the local traffic whisperer, notorious Boner Killer and the whitest Latina you know. Lydia is a proud Seattle native with a shameless coffee addiction to prove it. If she's not at work she's outdoors in the PNW. She loves running, playing with her dogs, snowboarding, yoga and friends know her as the girl that never stops moving. Unless she breaks to eat dessert and watch Game of Thrones. Look for her out at concerts as "that one girl dancing."
