Incredible Veterans Day Memorial

So so so so sooo very cool. I’ve seen photos of this Memorial in the past, but never knew the back story. As someone with multiple family members & close friends in the U.S. Military, this gave me goosebumps to read.

A memorial for U.S. veterans in Anthem, Ariz. is designed to shine especially bright on Veterans Day. On Nov. 11 at 11:11 a.m., the sun hits the memorial at a specific angle to reveal the Great Seal of the United States. —

Conceived by retired Rear Admiral Ron Tucker and designed by Renee Palmer-Jones, the memorial is made of five pillars representing the five branches of the Armed Forces. The pillars sit in a section of Anthem Community Park atop bricks engraved with the names of 750 veterans.

One day a year, on Veterans Day, the sun shines through ovals carved out of the pillars and illuminates the mosaic.

this kick-ass veterans day memorial is only fully visible on veterans day.

About justin

Justin grew up a country boy in a female-dominated family that smoothed him into the softie he is today. A Seattle radio personality since 2007, he's perfected the art of never taking himself seriously and isn't afraid to cry at movies. Find him riding a scooter (nicknamed "Ivy" after Blue Ivy Carter) through the mean streets of Queen Anne in Seattle or twitter-stalking the Seattle Mariners!
