5 days ago, Seattle-ites were joyed with the announcement of the cities FIRST NHL hockey team!
Even though the logo is simple, the story behind it is not.
Seattle’s expansion franchise owner, David Bonderman, spent over 18 months trying to find a name for the franchise. He considered over more than 1,200 names and also received 215,00 fan votes. It was inevitable that the new team name would be “Kraken” since it was a fan favorite.
“The Kraken is a name born of the fans. It was suggested and championed by the fans,” said Seattle Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke.
The logo was created with a partnership with Adidas. The “S” shape on the logo is a tribute to Seattle-ites.
“We knew that the connection to the Seattle Metropolitans was important,” said Nic Corbett, director of NHL relations for adidas Hockey.
The design was created to not only honor the game of hockey but the city of Seattle.
